A Few Years Ago:
I made a plan to start a business and I asked a friend who I was at university with if he wanted to join in, a short while after that Renegade Fortress was born.
Renegade Fortress was a mobile game development company releasing two small games for both Android and iOS which later evolved into an immersive tech company using the Microsoft HoloLens. We were based in MediaCityUK managaed to achieve good things while in business. I gain a wealth of knowledge and got to meet many interesting people over for the 5 years it was running. I utilized all my previous work expierance along using Unity3D engine and C#.
Other than going through the motion of running and maintaining a business, I did talks, gave work experience for students, travelled overseas a potential prospects, collaborated with the University of Salford, Barclays Eagle Labs and many more. We decided to go our separates to move on after a period as we never managed to hit our goal to secure investment to expand.
The pandemic had hit the world a few months after the company had shut down and I was just in the middle of finishing a major project for an engineering firm as a freelancer I decided to take a break as I wanted to focus on what my plans were for the future.
Recently:
In 2021 I did a bit of basic web development work and enjoyed it as it was very different from using WordPress in the past. I was hard coding components rather than using a framework to make them. A lot of the skills I had acquired in game development and immersive design were transferable but I had to start from scratch again and go back into being a full-on developer mode which I was not a fan of in the past but in my opinion on the front-end, I get best of both world so I had to relearn HTML + CSS + Vanilla JavaScript.
I used a M.E.A.N stack a few years ago for a failed project feeling very lost as it was overwhelming and web development had moved on so much from when I was a college but I thought I'd relearn the basics again having a better chance using a framework again like Angular or React.
During the gap some of the world was on hold, I have been teaching myself to do music production, video editing and the basics of electronics using an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi for some personal projects.
So, this past year (2022) I have been studying Vanilla JavaScript and rebuilding my website using use the big three and skilling up again.
I do plan on doing a deep dive on learning MySQL and PHP to work with the back on of websites with the help of a book by Jon Duckket completing the set of the other two books I own by him
I've had a little bit of experience working with it using Wordpress in the past
Thank you for reading this, so now you know my journey thus far.
